“As practitioners of project management, we are committed to doing what is right and honorable. We set high standards for ourselves and we aspire to meet these standards in all aspects of our lives—at work, at home, and in service to our profession[1]”. As project managers of the PMI we are bound to the Code of Ethics. As such our dedication should not cease when we leave the office, but should extend to all aspects of our lives, including the help we can provide to those around us.

At the end of September a kick-off workshop was held to determine the member’s interest in providing assistance to goede doelen. Charities are faced with numerous challenges and they may often not have the necessary resources to employ professional project managers. Therefore the motivation for this initiative is to provide our unique skill set in order to ensure their project endeavours are successfully planned and executed. At the end of the workshop interest in the initiative was very encouraging and we have assigned a Chapter member to manage the project. Looking ahead in the short term we are proposing the following steps:

  1. Identify the types of skills we can provide; and
  2. Select the charities that would be interested in our involvement.

We will endeavour to hold monthly meetings with those members who have expressed their interest; any additional Chapter or non-PMI members are welcome to join.
